Hey, kids. Welcome to pkurflax.org. While I realize posts featuring CCG cards are a bit passé at this point (Scott Jennings himself did a few a couple weeks ago, in fact), we have a lot of spare ones kicking around that need to be put to good use, so I figure this is as good a place as any. As the card says, this is intended to be a general gaming blog updated by both myself, Rob Shirai, and my robotic associate, Mori. While we don’t promise regular updates (or any updates at all), we do hope to engage, entertain and even enlighten our readers (both of you).

That said, it’s probably necessary that I expound a bit on the origins of our name. Back in early 2002, Mori and I spent some time beta testing the Egyptian-themed, non-combative MMOG A Tale In The Desert. Under the guise of ‘Al-Teirlap’ and ‘Al-Bhuk’, we quickly realized that the game was geared more towards large, hardcore groups of players than small duos of casual gamers such as ourselves, as we found our progress was quickly stymied by basic in-game functions, such as planing raw wood into boards. After several hours of wandering around Egypt looking for a functional wood plane, my comrade Mori began to notice that the landscape was dotted with a large number of flax plantations. Even more interesting was the fact that said flax plantations did not appear to have permission settings of any kind; indeed, any Al-Tom, Al-Dick or Al-Harry could wander over and pull up the flax plot with absolutely no negative repercussions.

Several hundred destroyed flax beds later, a new pastime was born: flax PKing. For many months of beta, Al-Bhuk wandered the shores of the Nile, laying waste to flax beds while belting out his rallying cry of ‘I PK UR FLAX!!!’. But, alas, his reign of terror would be short and sweet, as eGenesis, makers of ATITD, would eventually patch in the ability to ‘own’ flax beds like other buildings, thus killing off the practice of flax PKing forever.

Thus, this blog is named in memory of those glory days of roughage genocide, and the wonderful lesson that they teach us: no matter how set the status quo may seem, be it in the MMOG industry, the general gaming industry, or life as a whole, there will always be champions of change and innovation out there who will do their damnedest to push us closer toward another Golden Age, and there will always be insignificant fellows like ourselves who will do their damnedest to be one of those champions. Indeed, there will always be someone out there who will find a way to PK your flax.

Or, well… maybe the real lesson here is just that Mori’s a dick.

Either way, we hope you’ll stick around.
